This book is wonderful. It's also available in English on Amazon. The writer is Danish from the 19th C; he died in his thirties from tuberculosis and knew he would have little time to complete the works he wanted to write. An unusually satisfying feature of the book is that each character, as soon as they come on the scene, is treated as a main character would. Meaning that the authors enters into their souls with equal depth, affection and understanding. The book is also beautilly written and quite touching: the story of a young man, Niels Lyhne, from birth to early death--apparently autobiographical but in fact not. Its appeal is universal. Also, this is one of the books Rainer Maria Rilke said he reread with increasing pleasure many times over.Product details
